Quick Start Guide
The Golazo deck brings soccer to life with four exciting games for kids and families. Each game is designed to combine fun with learning, fostering a love for the game and sharpening strategy skills.
Step 1: Get Ready
Open the deck and sort the cards:
- 44 Position Cards
- 1 Red Card/Yellow Card
- 8 Formation Cards
Choose a game to play. First time? Start with Golazo or Derby!
Step 2: Warm Up
Here are some ways to get familiar with the cards and see what you know:
Learn Position Numbers
Draw from the 44 Position Cards, cover the name, and quiz another player on the number.
Learn Position Names
Draw from the 44 Position Cards, cover the number, and quiz another player on the name.
Learn Roles
Take turns explaining what each position does on the field. For example, what is the role of a number 8 - central midfielder?
Match Positions to Formations
Use the Formation Cards to arrange the Position Cards into popular soccer lineups (i.e., 4-4-2 or 4-3-3).
Game 1: Golazo
Level: Beginner
# of Players: 2+
Objective: Collect the most four of a kind sets of cards.
Set-Up:
- Keep the 44 Position Cards. Remove the Red Card/Yellow Card and 8 Formation Cards from the deck.
- For 2-3 players, deal 7 cards to each player.
- For more than 3 players, deal 5 cards to each player.
- Place the remaining cards face down as the draw pile.
Directions:
- Take turns asking for cards you need to make pairs (i.e., “Do you have any #8s - Central Midfielders?”).
- If the other player has it, they must hand it over.
- If not, draw a card from the pile. If it’s what you asked for, take another turn.
How to win:
- The game ends when all the cards have been matched and no cards are left in the draw pile or players’ hands. The player with the most pairs at the end wins!

Game 2: Derby
Level: Beginner
# of Players: 2
Objective: Win the most cards by outmatching your opponents.
Set-Up:
- Keep the 44 Position Cards. Remove the Red Card/Yellow Card and 8 Formation Cards from the deck.
- Shuffle and deal all cards evenly face down.
Directions:
- Both players flip their top card.
- The player with the higher number wins the round and takes both cards.
- If there’s a tie, each player flips three cards face down and a fourth card face up. Highest card wins all.
How to win:
- Collect all the cards to win!

Game 3: Red Card/Yellow Card
Level: Beginner
# of players: 2+
Objective: Pair up all your cards and avoid holding the Red Card at the end.
Set-Up:
- Keep the 44 Position Cards and the Red Card/Yellow Card. Remove the 8 Formation Cards from the deck.
- Shuffle and deal all the cards evenly.
Directions:
- Pair up any matching cards in your hand and set them aside.
- On your turn, draw one card from the player to your left. If it forms a pair with one in your hand, set it aside.
- Continue drawing and pairing until one card remains.
How to win:
- Avoid being left with the Red Card/Yellow Card!

Game 4: Formations
Level: Advanced
# of players: 1-2
Objective: Be the first to complete a soccer formation by arranging cards in sequential order from 1 to 11.
Set-Up:
- Keep the 44 Position Cards and the 8 Formation Cards. Remove the Red Card/Yellow Card from the deck.
- Deal 11 cards face down to each player and put the rest in one draw pile.
Directions:
- Pick a Formation Card and arrange your cards in the formation (1-11) face down.
- On your turn, draw a card from the draw pile. If the card matches a position number in your formation (i.e, a Goalkeeper #1), replace it and place it face up in the correct spot.
- If the replaced card also fits your formation, you can replace it and continue.
- If the card doesn’t fit your formation, discard it to a discard pile, and your turn ends.
How to win:
- Be the first to complete your team’s formation or beat your previous time!
